New Delhi: Tata Motor's much-awaited stylish sedan Zest (a sedan version of the hatchback Tata Bolt) has been launched in India at Rs 4.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol variant. The diesel version has been priced at Rs 5.64 lakh.

Tata Motors is pinning hopes on this new model to revive its sagging sales which is suffering from strong competition from carmakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Honda in the highly competitive passenger vehicle segment. For the first quarter ended June 30, its market share stood at 4.2 per cent from a little more than 10 per cent a couple of years ago.

The new model marks the company's first car launch after four years. Zest will take on the likes of Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and Hyundai Xcent.
Tata Motors president, passenger vehicles business unit, Ranjit Yadav, said Zest has been launched with 29 segment-first features. It has been engineered for global customers, by global teams across India, UK, Italy and Korea to offer a car that matches refinement with performance, he said.

Design in Europe and India, Zest comes with a beautiful new design and plush interiors. Zest comes in five variants – XE, XM, XMA, XMS and top-spec XT, which in its 1.3-litre diesel avatar is the only trim to get AMT.

The model is powered by Revotron 1.2T, the first engine from the new family of gasoline engines from Tata Motors and will be India's first Turbocharged Multi-point Fuel Injection (MPFi) petrol engine.

The Zest diesel comes with 1.3 litre Quadrajet Diesel engine coupled with the first-in-class F-Tronic technology-enabled, 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), with both automatic and sequential mode of gear-shifting, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli, Italy.

The petrol engine is clean and smooth and gives 90PS of max power at 5,000rpm and 140Nm of torque between 1,750 and 3,500rpm which is par for the segment.

The Revotron 1.2T delivers 17.6 km/litre and the diesel offers 23 km/litre, under mandated test km/litre in normal conditions, as per the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) certification.

Both petrol and diesel powertrains are BS-IV compliant and are capable of meeting future norms.

On the outside, the Zest gets Alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, Projector headlights (on all variants apart from base XE) and LED daytime running lights. All variants get turn indicators mounted on the ORVMs as standard. Safety features include driver and front passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, engine immobilizer and auto door lock system.

On the inside, Zest offers tilt adjustable steering, automatic climate control, multifunction steering wheel with voice command, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, driver seat height adjustment and Harman music system with 8 speakers capable of CD/MP3/Radio/USB/Bluetooth/AUX-in/SD.

“The new Zest models and a focus on product quality and service will ensure that the company's vehicles are placed competitively in the market,” said Ranjit Yadav, president of Tata Motors' passenger vehicles business unit.
