Xiaomi Redmi 1S launched in India for Rs 5,999, to go on sale on Sep 2

New Delhi: Chinese handset maker Xiaomi has launched its budget smartphone, the Redmi 1S, in India at Rs 5,999. Like the Mi3, the smartphone will be exclusively available via e-commerce website Flipkart.

The new smartphone will follow the same flash sale strategy used in Mi3. The device will go on sale on September 2 and the registrations for the phone will begin at 6PM today.

Xiaomi in July had announced the handset at Rs 6,999 for the Indian market. However, the price has been dropped to 5,999 to stir up the competition in the budget market.

The Redmi 1S offers a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display, portected by Dragontrail, and is powered by a 1.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM.

The device offers 16GB of in-built storage and a microSD card slot that further expands it up to 64GB. The device gets its juice from a 2400mAh battery and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Xiaomi's MIUI layer on top. There is also an 8MP rear shooter and a 1.6MP front camera.

Connectivity options include 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Direct and hotspot functionality, Micro-USB, Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB OTG connectivity options. It weighs 158 grams, and has dimensions of 137x69x9.9mm.

It packs a 2,000mAh battery, runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) with MIUI v5 skin on top, dual-SIM functionality and
Dirac technology for sound enhancement.

The device comes with the full suite of accessories, which includes a SIM card convertor to let people with micro-SIMs use the phones mini SIM slot.
