Royal Enfield has not been known to re-invent or produce new models in the market quite frequently so when we come across news that the vintage bike maker is coming out with a new bike that caters to a completely new segment, it certainly excites us.

Royal Enfield has been known to produce powerful bikes like Bullet and Thunderbird, but now the legendary bike maker is all set to feature an adventure bike or as the tagline says, 'Purpose- Built for Adventure'.

There has been a lot of anticipation regarding the launch of Royal Enfield Himalayan and the bike maker has further provided enticing images and videos before its official launch on February 2 this year at a press conference.

The video released showcases plenty of different test runs ranging from the initial prototype to end production model.

As a tribute to CS Santosh, country's first to complete the Dakar Rally last year and one of the best rally riders of India, Royal Enfield has named one of the test videos as 'The CS Santosh Test' as a part of the adventure riding compatibility.

Another video shows the key team members of the Royal Enfield development team in action including Mr. Lester Harris, Director, Harris Performance Products that has been involved in development and design of chassis and suspension of the bike.

We also see Mr. Sanjay Tripathi who is the former Head of Product Strategy, Royal Enfield.

He goes on to say in the video that the company is using the brand new LS400 engine for Royal Enfield Himalayan, which he describes as fundamentally an overhead cam engine generating 25bhp.

This obviously makes it apparent that the overall power generated by Royal Enfield Himalayan is going to be substantially more than the other 350cc models of Royal Enfield but slightly smaller than the 500cc models.

Mr. Sanjay adds on to say that the motor works in combination with oil-cooler that is responsible for keeping the temperature at an ideal level, that is sustainable for a long time.

This results in the motor generating a far better performance for the entire RPM range without having any adverse effect through changes in temperature.

Being an adventure bike, Royal Enfield Himalayan is quite sturdy and robust enough to endure varying conditions which would also result in low maintenance cost.

At the same time, Royal Enfield provides reasonable service intervals of around 10,000kms while the spark plug changing interval is after 25,000kms.

Royal Enfield had successfully created a niche for them, eliminating any competitions and they furthered that concept with Continental GT received a more than favorable response.

The website of Royal Enfield currently gives a few shots of the bike that users can lay their eyes on.

So far there are no contemporary bikes that fall in the same segment as Royal Enfield Himalayan in terms of a 400cc category which really gives the adventure bike an edge.

The company would be hoping to get a more than positive response upon its launch in the coming future.
