Sony announces miniature flagship Xperia Z1 Compact

New Delhi: Sony has announced the Xperia Z1 Compact at CES 2014. The company has not revealed the pricing or a date of availability for the device.  The new device comes with a specs sheet that doesn't compromise, and has almost identical specs to the Xperia Z1 flagship.

The only downgrades are the display resolution, which has been cut down to 720p, and the battery, which has been reduced to 2300 mAh - the same as on the previous Xperia Z flagship.

The Xperia Z1 Compact comes with a 4.3-inch Triluminos HD (1,280×720 pixels) display with X-Reality engine for mobiles and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. If offers 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded to up to 64GB using a microSD card.

It offers a 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS sensor, BIONZ processing engine and LED flash, supplemented with a 2-megapixel camera at the front.

The device gets its juice from a 2,300mAh battery with Stamina mode and is waterproof and dustproof like other recent Xperia smartphones.

Connectivity options include 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and on the software front, it runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is expected to hit markets next month. According to Sony the device will be priced between the Sony Xperia Z1 flagship and its Xperia Z predecessor.
