Aunt sues boy after birthday hug breaks her wrist!
New York: An aunt in the US sued her nephew after he gave her an overenthusiastic hug that broke her wrist.
The woman was seeking $127,000 in damages from the boy but did not receive a cent.
A jury took only 25 minutes to decide that she would receive zero damages.
Jennifer Connolly, a 54-year-old human resources manager in New York, took the extraordinary decision to file a lawsuit over the incident that happened four years ago.
Her nephew, who was then eight, reportedly flew into her arms shouting 'Auntie Jen, I love you!'
Connolly said she did not want to make a scene at the time because it was her nephew's birthday party.
“(A) reasonable 8-year-old under those circumstances would know, or should have known, that a forceful greeting such as the one delivered by the defendant to the plaintiff could cause the harms and losses suffered by the plaintiff,” her lawsuit said.
The aunt testified that she was at a party recently and had found it difficult to hold her hors d'oeuvre plate.
She also claimed that she found it hard to climb the stairs to her third floor apartment with an injured wrist.
