A Gentleman actor Sidharth Malhotra slammed for promoting his film in an 'insensitive' tweet over Ram Rahim verdict
This Friday, Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez’s film A Gentleman released on silverscreen. But another major event was also taking place in the country. It was none other than Panchkula High Court’s verdict on Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Ram Rahim, who was accused of rape of two women followers in 2002. Violent clashes have emerged since the HC convicted the godman in Panchkula. Heavy security has been deployed across Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Sidharth Malhotra tweeted his concern for the people in a tweet which terribly went wrong as it concluded. He wrote:
To all the people of Haryana , please stay safe. Hope you can see our film soon #Agentleman #PeaceAndLove
This tweet didn’t go well with most of the people, who found it rather insensitive at the time of upheaval in the country. Wishing the safety for people in Haryana was okay, but the way he went away with mentioning his film in the tweet seemed tasteless to many. As soon as he tweeted, he was flooded with more than 1,000 of backlashes in reply. Here’s what some of the angered followers wrote:
It was not until the evening that Sidharth Malhotra provided clarifications for his tweets. He wrote to his defence:
To people who are commenting on my morning tweets, they were made before the verdict ! Thoughts n prayers
Thankfully, most of his followers are convinced now.
A Gentleman is a Krishna D.K movie which features Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez in pivotal roles. It released on 25th August, 2017.
