Celebrity romances have always been the topic of interest in the tinselville. The fans and media are always keen to know whom their favourite actor or actress is dating in their personal lives.

However, it is often noticed that stars don’t really accept their relationship in public, especially the actresses. Alia Bhatt is one such B-town star who is often sought out by the fans and media alike. Everyone is desperate to know about her love life and whom she is dating at present.

Her name is often linked to her ‘Student of the Year’ co-star Sidharth Malhotra, with whom she is spotted quite frequently.

However, the 23-year-old actress has never accepted the relationship. And she seems to have a valid reason for doing this.

In an interview to a leading English daily, Alia Bhatt said that ‘slut shaming’ was the biggest reason that girls shy away from admitting about their love life in India.

She said, "In India, you are a part of a society that's very judgmental. Here, girls who have multiple boyfriends is still a huge deal and something that is frowned upon. I mean, look at Taylor Swift. She's dated, like, everybody. But if she was here, she'd be totally shamed for making those choices. Her image and appeal would be very different. The reason actresses don't talk about their private lives is because in our society there is a lot of slut-shaming. Eventually, I have a responsibility and I have to protect myself”

"It's important that I am seen in a certain way, it's just the way it is. Speculations about celebrities are commonplace but as long as it's not coming from the horse's mouth, you're quite safe, so to speak," she added.

The ‘Highway’ actress further stated that being too much frank about the personal life can have extreme consequences. Likewise if she has to admit to dating Sidharth, it would have many probable intimidations in the future.

"Okay, suppose I say that but is it necessary that it stays that way? What if tomorrow I am not in love with him and feel differently about it? Then what? It's not written in stone, is it? And I don't want to be in a position where they come after me because I broke up with a dude. "Oh, aapka break-up ho gaya, ab agla kaun? Who's next?" This shallow and stupid thinking is just the reality of our society which doesn't allow women to be the way they'd like to be - free and independent," she said.

Guess Alia Bhatt made a valid point here. We hope those who criticize actresses over their personal life and love relationships too understand that it needs to be stopped right now.
