Dangal in China: Aamir Khan’s film collects 1000 crore, creates history at Chinese box-office
Amid the criticism from Chinese feminists and Baahubali 2 craze, Aamir Khan starrer Dangal is doing great in China. The sports drama has entered the coveted Rs 1000 crore club in the neighbouring nation, fresh box-office reports suggest.
Damgal in China has created an unrepresented landmark by becoming the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one billion Yuan Renminbi, according to reports. The revenue in Indian currency amounts to about Rs 1,000 crore. Owing to the film’s gross earnings, it has joined the exclusive club of just 32 films in China cinema history”, Maoyan, a popular ticketing website in China stated.
Aamir's 2014 film PK too was successful in China. However, Dangal has surpassed all box office records of an Indian film. PTI reports that after earning Rs. 1,000 crore, Dangal is now the 33rd film in Chinese cinema to cross this mark. The Nitesh Tiwari-directed film released in China as Shuai Jiao Baba (Let's Wrestle, Dad) in around 7,000 screens on May 5. Globally, Dangal is giving a stiff competition to Baahubali 2, which has redefined the box office game. Till May 28, Dangal had earned over Rs. 888 crore in China, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Here's the last week collection of Dangal.
"It is an unprecedented success for an Indian film and important landmark, making Dangal a super hit Indian film," Prasad Shetty, an industry tracker told PTI. “Dangal is still playing in about 9000 screens, he added. The blockbuster has also made Aamir Khan, the most popular Indian star on Chinese social media, where he has over 6.55 lakh followers.
