Veteran actor Manoj Kumar is one of the talented actors of Hindi cinema. He has delivered some powerful performances in films that turned out to be blockbusters. The actor has worked in many movies that had patriotic theme. Thus, he was fondly called ‘Bharat Kumar’ by movie buffs. Manoj Kumar was honoured with Padma Shri in 1992 and was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2016. On his 80th birthday here are some of his powerful performances.

Shaheed

The actor was seen playing the role of revolutionary Bhagat Singh in the National-award winning film. The movie was directed by S Ram Sharma and Manoj Kumar impressed everyone with his acting. The movie had some soulful songs like Sarfaroshi ki tamanna and Aye watan aye watan humko teri kasam.

Upkar

Who can forget the popular song, Mere desh ki dharti sona ugle. This song can still be heard on National Days. It was from the film Upkar. The movie also marked the directorial debut of the actor. Not only for Manoj Kumar, but the movie turned out to be gamechanger for many stars like Asha Parekh and Pran.

Hariyali Aur Raasta

This movie was Manoj Kumar’s first big success in his filmy career. He was seen with Mala Sinha and Shashikala in the film. The movie was directed by Vijay Bhatt. After this film, there was no looking back for the star.

Mera Naam Joker

Manoj Kumar was seen for a short role in the film as Mera Naam Joker focussed on Raj Kapoor's character. But, he managed to leave impact on the audiences with his performance.

It was a multi-starrer film and had the cast of talented actors like Shashi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Hema Malini, Parveen Babi and Shatrughan Sinha. The movie showcased a small group of people fighting against the British for the independence of the country.
