In pics: The splendid journey of Om Puri in Bollywood

Veteran actor Om Puri was one actor who carved his name on the golden book of Indian cinema. The actor has received many prestigious awards for his contribution in films. Bollywood today lost its star who died after suffering massive heart attack. Here are some of his achievements that are a proof that he will always be remembered by every movie buff.

After completing his graduation from the Film and Television Institute of India, the actor made his debut in 1976 with the Marathi film ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’. After that, there was no stopping for the actor. He became the part of many Bollywood movies and emerged as a critically acclaimed actor of the industry.

Om Puri was honoured with National Film Awards not only once but twice. In 1981, he played the role of Hari Mondal in ‘Arohan’ and won the award whereas once again in 1983 his begged it for ‘Ardh Satya’.

After being a renowned name in Bollywood, the actor paved his way to Hollywood. By playing some prominent roles in movies like ‘City of Joy’, ‘The Ghost and the Darkness’ and ‘Wolf’.

The actor then made his debut in Pakistani film industry with ‘Actor In Law’. Thus, he became the international star in his career spanning over 40 years.

Apart from appearing on small screen, the actor also acted in a British TV series ‘Second Generation’.

But, despite being an achiever, people in Film industry can never remain untouched by controversy. Om Puri gave a controversial statement on Indian Army during the surgical strike and faced outrage. He then came forward and apologised for his insensitive remarks.
