The veteran actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan’s critically acclaimed Tamil film Aalavandhan, written by the actor himself and directed by Suresh Krissna, which was released in 2001, is all set to be released soon digitally.

On Saturday, a leading Tamil daily published the poster of the movie and gave the sign of its re-release.

"Plans are underway for the film's re-release. Following its terrific reception at Fantastic Fest in the US last year, its local distributor has decided to bring it to Indian cinemas again. It has been digitally remastered," a source close Kamal told IANS.

The film is a psychological thriller of a Commando, Vijay Kumar and his twin brother Nandu, a psychopath suffering from schizophrenia. Haasan had been seen portraying the role of Vijay Kumar and Nandu. Other actors include Raveena Tandon, Manisha Koirala, Vallabh Vyas, and Milind Gunaji in supporting roles. The music was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Aalavandhan is an adaptation of the novel Dayam that was written by Kamal Haasan in 1984. It also won the National Film Awards for best special effects.

Quentin Tarantino openly accepted that the animated violence in Aalavandhan inspired the Manga-style action in his Kill Bill films.

Although the film was acclaimed critically for its narrative style and animated actions, but it could not earn much at the box offices then. Nevertheless, the movie became a cult classic over the years.

Recently, Kamal was speaking to reporters on the trailer launch of Star Vijay TV’s Tamil reality TV show Bigg Boss. By hosting the show, Haasan will be debuting in television.
