Queen to Neerja: Have a look at women-centric movies with protagonist's name as title
The trailer of actress Kangana Ranaut’s Simran was released recently and it received rave reviews from the audiences. The lady shined in each frame of two-minute-long trailer and proved once again that she doesn’t need star power to deliver a blockbuster. Over the time, things have changed in Bollywood. The film industry that was earlier referred as ‘male dominated’ not only delivered multiple women centric films but titles of the film were also given keeping in mind the female protagonists. There are many movies which have the name of the female characters as the title.
Directed by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie is yet to be released. It is based on the life of Queen Padmavati. Actress Deepika Padukone will be seen as the protagonist in the film. Actors Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor will also play crucial roles.
The film was based on the real-life story of Neerja Bhanot, an air hostess who lost her life saving passengers from terrorists. Sonam Kapoor played the lead in the film and bagged the National Award for it.
The movie did wonders at the box office. Actress Deepika Padukone shared the screen space with talented actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan in the film.
Kangana Ranaut delivered a fantastic performance and the film was not only liked by the audiences but critics also lauded it. Though, the name of Kangana’s character in the film was Rani but her fiancée played by Rajkummar Rao fondly called her Queen.
Sonakshi Sinha played the role of a journalist named Noor in the film. Based on the novel Karachi, You're Killing Me!, the movie couldn’t generate heat at the box office.
Taapsee Pannu, played the character of Shabana in the film. The lady won hearts with her powerful performance and the film did a decent business at the box office.
