IPL come and go, but one thing is the major constant of this popular movie channel, Set Max and that is 'Sooryavansham'. It broke the records of telecasting the same movie repeatedly on its channel. It was on 21st May 1999 that this historical movie released and now it turns 18 years. On it’s 18th anniversary, it’s somehow mandatory to answer this most-asked question- Why Set Max telecasts ‘Sooryavansham’ way too much?

Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Sooryavansham’ is the most telecasted movie on an Indian movie channel. The megastar himself reminisced some memories associated with this milestone venture of his career. He tweeted that this movie is the ‘Most Watched Film’ in the rural area.

In this popular Bollywood drama shows Amitabh Bachchan in a double role. He played the role of both father and son himself. You will be shocked to know that when this movie hit the silverscreen it was nothing but a dud. It tumbled terribly on the box office and was declared a ‘FLOP’.

But thanks to Set Max channel that people get to see ‘too much’ of this Bollywood flick. What happened actually, in 1999 ‘Sooryavansham’ was released and at the same time, Set Max was also a newbie in the league of Indian TV channels. According to Sony Max’s marketing head Vaishali, Sooryavansham purchased the rights of Set Max for 100 years! This is the reason why ‘Sooryavansham’ and Set Max became the ‘Together Forever’ buddy for Indian viewers.

The irritated TV viewers also trolled and made jokes on the movie which got pretty viral on internet. Here are few of them.

Some even renamed the channel name as Sony Suryamaxam

Sadly, actress of the movie, Soundarya didn’t live enough to see her own film becoming a legacy. She died in a plane crash in 2004.
