Mumbai: An array of Indian film celebrities Thursday expressed shock at the demise of Australian batsman Phillip Hughes, who died after being struck on the head by a cricket ball. The incident, they said, reminds one of how fragile life is.

The 25-year-old Hughes, who represented the national team in 26 Tests between 2009-2013, fractured his skull and suffered massive bleeding in his brain after being hit by bowler Sean Abbot's bouncer in a Sheffield Shield match between South Australia and New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) Tuesday afternoon.

He underwent surgery, but succumbed without regaining consciousness.

Mourning Hughes' death, a string of actors and filmmakers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the incident as well as to express their sentiments for Abbot.

Here's what they had to say:

Karan Johar: No age to go... thoughts and prayers with the family... this is just too sad...#RIPPhilHuges.

It's a sport and he mustn't blame himself for what happened. #RIPPhilHughes
