New Delhi: Shraddha Kapoor-Sidharth Malhotra-Riteish Deshmukh starrer ‘Ek Villain' is on a record breaking spree with the weekend collection easily surpassing Rs 50 cr mark at box office.

The musical romantic-thriller after a brilliant opening with Rs 16.72 cr, just coming close to Salman Khan's ‘Jai Ho', had a rock-steady Saturday where it garnered Rs 16.54 cr but Sunday witnessed huge serpentine queues at theatres taking the weekend box office collection to Rs 50.70 cr nett in India.

“EkVillain Fri 16.72 cr, Sat 16.54 cr, Sun 17.44 cr. Total: Rs 50.70 cr nett. India biz. MONSTROUS HIT!”, tweets trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.

The first half of the year ends today on a great note and the beginning of the other half is expected to be brilliant indeed.

The Mohit Suri's directorial has mostly received positive response by film critics and audience is least perturbed by the one's who have slammed this flick.

However, if compared to Salman Khan's Jai Ho, which earned Rs 60.68 cr in weekend, Ek Villain's figure falls quite short. But it's expected that Ek Villain will dominate in the coming days compared to Jai Ho that had an unexpected downfall in weekdays.

But still giving Salman Khan's biggie, which released in massive 4500 screens, a run for the money with much lesser number of screens (2539) is admirable for Ek Villain.

Ek Villain has already left behind this year's earlier flicks' opening weekend figures namely Gunday (Rs 43.93 cr), Holiday (Rs 41.32), Humshakals (Rs 40.13 cr) and 2 States (Rs 38.26cr).

The flick's collection at overseas is also surprising. The Thursday and Friday's collection went to impressive Rs 6 cr. “EkVillain Thu + Fri Overseas total: approx $ 1 mn [Rs 6 cr]. VERY GOOD!”, confirmed Adarsh.

The flick within two days has also crossed the weekend collections of A.R. Murugadoss' ‘Holiday' and Sajid Khan's Humshakals in UK.

“This is SHOCKING! #EkVillain crosses *weekend biz* of #Holiday and #Humshakals in UK in 2 days [Fri+Sat]. Despite half screen count”, confirms Adarsh.

Good marketing strategy, brilliant music have added to the curiosity level of Ek Villain fans for whom it became one of the most awaited flicks.

Maximum number of theatres is running packed and owners are compelled to use the houseful board outside the premises. Mohit Suri's last year's release ‘Aashiqui 2' made it to the Rs 100 cr club but at a slow pace even being backed by the brand name of the franchisee and Bhatts.

None of these factors accompanies Ek Villain this time around. Mohit for the first time has gone out of the Bhatts to work with Ekta Kapoor's Balaji production.

And if this flick hits the ton, what appears to be quite achievable, this would come as shocker to many. Well, we hope it makes it the elite club.
