New Jersey: Telugu actress Aarthi Agarwal passed away in a private hospital here on Saturday after a "failed liposuction surgery.” She was 31.

"Aarthi was battling obesity and pulmonary illness. She was undergoing treatment and due to some complications, she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away," Aarthi's manager told IANS.

Agarwal, who suffered from asthma for several years, had undergone a liposuction surgery about a month ago but later developed respiratory problems.

The 31-year-old Aarthi had worked in nearly 25 movies in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. Her latest Telugu film, Ranam 2, was released in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh just a day before her death.

Agarwal was born and brought up in New Jersey. Her first movie was Pagalpan in Hindi, made when she was 16. She moved to Telugu industry when her film did not fare well at the box office.

She made her Telugu cinematic debut with a hit film "Nuvvu Naaku Nachav" in 2001. Since then, she has featured in hits like "Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu", "Indra" and "Vasantham".

In 2005, she attempted suicide after her alleged relationship with co-star Tarun turned bitter.

Aarthi starred in nearly 25 films. Her latest release "Ranam 2" released in cinemas on Friday.
