The story of two ‘The Undertakers’: Brian Lee and Mark Callaway
The Undertaker, who has been the heartbeat of WWE for over two decades, is widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all times.
But, do you know that there is more than one Undertaker? Yes! Both Mark Callaway and Brian Lee are Undertakers but one is real and the other one is fake.
So, how and when did the fake Undertaker came into existence?
Real Undertaker’s sudden absence
The real Undertaker Mark Callaway went on a hiatus for several months after losing a match against Yokozuna during the 1994 Royal Rumble.
However, later it was reported that the real reason for Undertaker’s absence was that he was granted leave to properly recover from a back injury.
Entry of fake Undertaker
When Mark was away on his break, the WWE officials introduced the wrestler Brian Lee as the return of Undertaker. Brian looked just like the real Undertaker with wet, long hair and sinister looks. So, the fake one was established with much ease.
Even Bollywood picked the fake Undertaker
The fake Undertaker Brian Lee showed up in Akshay Kumar's 1996 film Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. In the climax of the film, Akshay manages to defeat the Undertaker and kill him.
The final face-off between Real and Fake Undertakers
The mystery of the Undertakers was solved during the highlight match of SummerSlam 1994. The match was between the real Undertaker Mark and fake one Brain.
The eight-minute-long match eventually ended after the real Undertaker finished off his opponent with two Tombstone Piledrivers.
While the fallen imposter was put in a casket and wheeled away, the real Undertaker Mark Callaway claimed his victory in style.
