A latest study has revealed that more than two billion adults and children across the globes are a victim of obesity. They are overweight and suffer severe health problems due to their weight. United States of America, the biggest superpower is the leading the crisis with highest number of obesity cases. This indicates that world’s one-third population is suffering from obesity, due to many reasons like sedentary lifestyle, urbanisation, poor diet and lack of physical work, as per the reports by CNN.
United States have topped the list of the percentage of obese children and young adults, which contribute around 13% of the total population. US is followed by Egypt in terms of obesity. But Egypt leads the trail in terms of adult obesity. It has almost 35% of adult population being overweight.
In 2015, only 2.2 billion people were obese or overweight, more than 710 million of them were classified as obese, in which 5% of total number was children and the other 12% were adults. The increase in the number is impacting on the worldwide health scenario. It has caused increase in health problems that are linked to being overweight like cardiovascular disorders, study reveals. This study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
According to the study conducted, nearly 4% of the four million are dying due to dangerously high body mass index, and they were not yet obese. The study was conducted after collection data from 68.5 million people between the timeline 1980 and 2015 to study the trends and figures of overweigh and obesity rates.
The analysis revealed that the number of people affected by obesity in 73 countries has doubled since 1980 and it has continued to rise across most other countries included in the analysis. In the report also revealed that the obesity levels were higher among women than men across all age groups.
