Today, you will learn the secrets of healthy and gorgeous hair.   

In the interview, beauty expert Shahnaz Husain unveiled the causes and treatments for some common hair problems like grey hair, dull hair, dry hair, greasy hair etc. She also doled out some valuable home remedies for good hair health.

Question: Problems like hair fall, dull hair, and grey hair are this generation's biggest nightmare. Please provide some tips to make things better.

Stress, lifestyle, chemical treatments and lack of proper care play roles in increasing the incidence of hair loss, early greying and dull hair.

Chemical treatments and heat application to dye, colour, straighten and perm the hair take a heavy toll on the health and look of the hair. Dull, dry hair, with hair breakage is common.

Reasons for hair fall

Some of the reasons for hair loss are dandruff, oily scalp, stress, thyroid imbalance, illness, nutritional deficiencies, hair damage (caused by repeated dyeing, colouring, perming, straightening), etc.

Hair loss after pregnancy  

Hair loss after pregnancy is also common. Herbal hair tonic, applied on the scalp daily, using cotton wool, would help. Take care of the hair according to its needs.

Apply oil once a week the night before shampoo. If you like, you can apply olive oil or pure coconut oil. Avoid head massage. If there is hair loss, the roots are already weak and massage may aggravate the problem. If the hair is oily, avoid oil applications.

Clinical scalp treatments and hair spa treatments help to nurse the hair back to health.

Diet for better hair

Diet is very important. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily and include fresh fruits, salads, leafy green vegetables, soyabean, curd, in your diet. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.

Home remedies for healthy hair

Some home remedies may help. For deep conditioning, mix together one egg, two tablespoons castor oil, the juice of a lemon and one teaspoon pure glycerine. Massage this into the hair half an hour before shampoo.

Amla is said to check greying. So, you can have the juice of one raw amla daily, after adding it to a glass of water. You can also add amla to the henna paste. Colourveda Natural Hair Colour, containing indigo, henna and catechu gives the hair a blackish brown colour. It is 100% natural.
