Playing down the criticism for Air India lifting the ban against Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad, the union government today said that that the Lok Sabha member has given an undertaking for not repeating March 23 incident in future.

In a series of tweets, Union Minister of State for Aviation Jayant Sinha today explained that Gaikwad apologised and provided an undertaking that such incidents will not reoccur after which Air India was advised to lift the ban.

“Shri Gaikwad apologised and provided undertaking that such incidents will not reoccur. Therefore AI has been advised to revoke his ban,” Jayant Sinha tweeted.

He also added that the law will take its own course as far as Gaikwad's conduct during March 23 incident was concerned.

“ Police investigations regarding Shri Gaikwad's conduct during the Mar 23 incident are underway and the law will take its own course,” he added.

The minister further said that the Ministry of Civial Aviation is strengthening rules in order to create a national no-fly list and prevent repetition of such incidents.

“MoCA is strengthening rules so that a national no-fly list can be implemented, such incidents can be prevented, and safety improved,” he said.

He also warned Air travellers that since safety and security for passengers was top priority, unruly or disruptive behaviour will have severe consequences.

“Air travellers should note that safety and security for passengers and crew is our paramount priority. Unruly / disruptive behaviour will result in severe consequences. This includes police action for a specific incident as well as being placed on a no-fly list” he added.
