With less than a month left for upcoming Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, a renowned doctor in Allahabad was killed by unknown assailants in his own hospital on Thursday.

The culprits pretended to be patients to enter the hospital and fired six shots at the doctor's head and shoulder, reports say.

Dr. A.K Bansal, the director of Jeevan Jyoti hospital in city's Rambagh area, was killed after two men pretending as patients entered the hospital and fired six shots at the doctor's head and shoulder.

Dr. Bansal, who was under treatment for three hours, breathed his last on Thursday on the bed of his own hospital.

The incident took place around 7 pm in the Jeevan Jyoti Hopsital.

Agitated over his murder, the doctors of Uttar Pradesh have called for a strike on Friday to lodge their protest.

According to reports, Dr Bansal was embroiled in several legal matters. He was also attacked with a bomb three months ago.

BJP state president Keshav Maurya is a stake-holder in Dr Bansal's Jeevan Jyoti Hospital. It is also said that he was embroiled in a land dispute with Samajwadi Party's strongman and MLA Vijay Mishra.
