“Militants attacked a security forces injuring 10 security personnel, including nine Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers and a local policeman,” a police officer said.
Two militants have been killed in the encounter but their bodies have not been retrieved yet, the official said.
The injured were transferred to a hospital, he said, adding that the doctors described the condition of two CRPF troopers as critical.
The gunmen were unable to take control of the police station in the old city of Srinagar, but did wound nearly 10 security personnel in the attack.
