Three militants were gunned down today as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Naugam sector of north Kashmir.

“Suspicious movement was noticed along the LoC in Naugam sector last night and the terrorists were tracked till dawn, when they were challenged by own troops,” an Army official said.

He said in the ensuing gunfight, three militants have been killed so far as the operation was still in progress.

The official said combing operations were being carried out in the forest area to ensure no militant from the group has managed to sneak in.

On Sunday, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics and mortars in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch Sector, along the Line of Control (LoC).

The retaliatory firing came a day after an army soldier and his wife were killed and their three daughters were injured in firing from across the border in Poonch district.

Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts and villages in Chakkan da Bagh and Kharri Karmara areas.

Two Pakistani soldiers were also killed and six others were injured by Indian security forces.

Reportedly, 23 cease fire violations have occurred so far in June alone.

Menwhile, the data also shows a sharp decline in the number of infiltration attempts. While 371 infiltration cases were recorded in 2016, the number came down to 124 recorded till May-end this year.
