Two jawans martyred in BAT attack in Poonch, two Pak militants killed in retaliationThe BAT, which generally comprises special forces of the Pakistan Army and some terrorists, carried out the attack at around 2 pm with the aid of cover fire by the Pakistani troops from their posts.
Two jawans were martyred and one was injured when the notorious Border Action Team (BAT) of Pakistan carried out an attack 600 metres inside the Indian territory in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir. In retaliatory action undertaken by the Indian security forces, two BAT militants were also killed.
The BAT, which generally comprises special forces of the Pakistan Army and some terrorists, carried out the attack at around 2 pm with the aid of cover fire by the Pakistani troops from their posts, an Army official said. This was the third BAT action in Poonch this year.
The official said the Indian Army's 'Area Domination Patrol' was targeted by the armed intruders and exchange of fire occurred. "Pakistan’s BAT team was 600 metres within the Indian side of the LoC and 200 metres from the Indian posts."
While the firefight was going on, the Pakistani posts resorted to heavy firing. "The operations are in progress and heavy exchange of fire is going on," the official added.
Earlier in the day, a militant was killed as the Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A group of militants tried to sneak in from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir but the bid was foiled by the alert troops. The troops challenged them, triggering a gunbattle in which one militant was killed.
