J&K: 7 Army men, including two officers awarded life imprisonment for 2010 Machil fake encounter case
Srinagar: Seven Army men, including two officers have been convicted by the Indian Army in 2010 Machil fake encounter case in Jammu and Kashmir. All of them have been given capital punishment- life imprisonment. Their service benefits have been suspended too.
The convicted army men have been found guilty of killing innocent civilians and brewing conspiracy.
The incident happened in 2010 when three young boys from North Kashmir were lured with promise of employment and monetary aid to Kupwara. Here they were killed in a staged encounter by the army near Line of Control (LoC).
The army claimed that the youth were Pakistani terrorists attempting to infiltrate in the country.
2010 Machil fake encounter triggered massive protests across the valley against the army and evolved as an embarrassing case for the Indian Army.
