Death toll in Mumbai hooch tragedy rises to 25
Mumbai: Death toll in Mumbai hooch tragedy climbed to 25 with 12 more deaths reported today, police said.
The victims had consumed the country liquor at a bar in Rathodi village on Wednesday night, and started showing symptoms of poisonous effects since Thursday morning.
According to witnesses, many of them started vomiting, complained of severe abdominal pain and suddenly collapsed, after which their family members rushed them to hospitals.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has taken over the probe into the incident, Minister of State for Home Ranjit Patil said here on Thursday evening.
One person -- identified as Raju Langada -- has been arrested in this connection and the source of the spurious liquor was being investigated.
