J&K polls: EC to hold 'Democracy Run' in Jammu today

Jammu: In a bid to encourage the voters to cast their votes on the polling day, the Election Commission of India will today hold a 6 km ‘Democracy Run' in Jammu.

"To promote voter awareness and encourage youths to reach the polling stations on the day of polling to cast their votes, a six km Democracy Run would be organised on November 16," Jammu District Election Officer Ajeet Kumar Sahu said.

The run will start from Higher Secondary School, Satwari and will pass through Satwari Chowk, Nai Basti, Asia Crossing, Vikram Chowk, Fly Over, MLA Hostel, Rambershwar Temple, Geeta Bhawan, Parade, before culminating at Parade Ground.

Sahu said that prizes in various categories shall be given to the winners.

Polling in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in five-phases -- November 25, December 2, December 9, December 14 and December 20. Results will be announced on December 23.
