Vadodara: LED equipped kites in bright colours illuminated the night skies at a kite festival organised here.

Though the festival of kites is usually held on January 14, the ‘Makarsankranti' day, the celebration, organised by an educational group here, was attended by over 3,000 young students and children here last evening.

More than 20 huge kites ranging from 6 to 10 feet in size flown by experts from The Kite Flyers Club of Ahmedabad dazzled the skies with bright colours.

Students from Bangladesh, Africa, Sri Lanka, Germany and other countries studying in various engineering, pharmacy and management colleges here also took part in the traditional festival.

On the occasion, the students and faculties took a vow not to fly kites from 5.30 to 7.30 PM as it is the turn for the birds to fly back home.

The celebration was concluded with the flying of hundreds of hot air balloons, Patel group of trust chairman Dr Jayesh Patel said.

The Gujarat government has also organised an international kite festival in the city on January 11.
