Firozabad (UP): Sporting a red cap and wearing slacks, Akhilesh Yadav, the young chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday led a Samajwadi Party cycle marathon rally to herald his party's campaign for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

He started from Panchvati Hotel in Sirsaganj riding a swanky Mercedes cycle with Black Cat commandos holding Uzi sub-machine guns behind, jogging to keep pace with the CM, who rode 25 km Shikohabad to Saifai, the home bailiwick of the ruling Yadav family.

More than 4,000 SP activists took part in the cycle rally, flagged off by Akhilesh's uncle and party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav.

Party workers competed with one another to come closer to the chief minister. Many of them held their bicycles up in the air in the spree to push ahead of the crowd.

They were baton-charged and pushed away by police and the workers fell upon one another with their machines.
