Militants Mixing Up With Crowds In Valley, Says Kashmir Police

Srinagar:  Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday  said that militants have started taking active part in the disruptive activities in the Valley as evidenced by the ultras opening fire from a mob in Sopore area of Baramulla district.

"Once again it came to the fore today that the militants have mixed up with crowds, when some shots were fired from a crowd at Hathi Shah in Sopore...In the beginning, a single gun shot was fired which was followed by a burst," a police spokesman said in a release here.

He, however, said there were no injuries in the incident.

"This has proved that militants have become part and parcel of the plans for disturbance of the peace in the Valley," the spokesman claimed, adding about half a dozen incidents of firing and grenade throwing have been reported earlier from Sopore alone.

"While on earlier occasion, grenades were lobbed at Hathi Shah bridge and Chankhan about one and a half month ago, gun shots were fired from the mobs twice at Main Chowk Sopore, once at Kapra Theatre area, once on police station Sopore and once from the crowd at Bomai," he said.

He said that at Palhalan in Pattan area of the district, gunmen fired from the crowd, injuring the Station House Officer Pattan last month.

"Militants are also moving along with the crowds at many other places including Hajan and Sumbal area of Bandipora district," he added. PTI
