Mumbai gears up for Bhendi Bazar festival

Mumbai: Preparation are going   for the upcoming Bhendi Bazar festival that aims to refresh Mumbai's Urdu heritage.

The four-day festival will begin on January 10 and will run till January 12.

Mumbai mayor Sunil Prabhu will inaugurate the festival.

The initiative to start this festival has been taken by Zubair Azmi, director of Urdu Markaz, an organisation that works towards the development of Urdu literacy.

The three-day event will feature several plays, ghazal performances, poetry-reading sessions, panel discussions featuring literary exponents like Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Waheeda Rehman and Prasoon Joshi, among others.

It will be held at Imambada Municipal Secondary School Grounds, Dongri, between 6 pm and 10 pm. Entry is free.
