Teenage boy drowns in water park's pool
New Delhi: A 17-year-old youth drowned in the pool of a water park here where he had gone on an outing with his friends yesterday, Delhi Police said.
The police said the body of the victim, Gagandeep, was recovered from the pool of Splash Water Park in Alipur area of outer Delhi.
A case of causing death by negligence has been registered at Alipur police station on the complaint of the victim's friend and the deceased's body has been handed over to his family after conducting a post-mortem.
Gagandeep, a resident of Vishnu Garden, had gone to the water park with five friends in the afternoon yesterday.
According to his friends, they had informed the pool's lifeguard that they were not good at swimming. One of his friends Jaswinder told police that the pool was crowded due to which nobody noticed Gagandeep drowning and when they returned to the pool, no lifeguard was on duty.
There was commotion and Gagandeep was taken out from the deep end of the pool, he said.
"No life-saving first-aid was provided in the water park," Jaswinder said.
The victim was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. Two weeks ago, a 13-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a government school in east Delhi's Shahdara. Two lifeguards were arrested in this case.
