One BSF jawan killed, 3 injured in mortar blast during practice session in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer: In an unfortunate incident, one jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) lost his life while three others sustained severe injuries in a mortar blast during a practice session at a firing range in Jaisalmer today.
The injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to the initial reports, the jawans were holding an exercise in the Kishanganj field firing range in Jaisalmer when the mortar explosion occurred, killing one jawans and severely injuring three of them.
Ravi Gandhi, Border Security Force Deputy Inspector General, giving an insight to the incident said, “The accident happened around 1.30 p.m. during an exercise being conducted in Kishangarh field firing range in Jaisalmer, about 650 km from here.”
"The injured have been brought to hospital in Jodhpur by an air force helicopter," he added. Their recovery will take a while as the wounds are severe.
This is the second serious incident of a similar nature to have occurred at the same firing range. The 2012 incident left four jawans seriously wounded, but nobody was killed.
