A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making a threatening call to the police claiming that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's life was in danger.

Veer Singh, a resident of Farsh Vihar in the national capital, was arrested for making a call to the Police Control Room on Thursday evening claiming that Dikshit's life was n danger, police said today.  Singh, who was working in a shop that sells purses in Delhi, used an MTNL number bought by one Mahendar to make the call.  The MTNL Garuda number was bought from Ram Hello Point mobile shop in Narela.

Mahendar did not like the number and returned it to the shop, from where Singh allegedly managed to steal it.  Police said Singh made the call to police control room primarily to implicate a lender to whom he owed Rs 20,000.  "After making the call to police control room, he also gave a missed call to the lender (to whom he owed money) thinking that he will be caught," police said.

During technical surveillance by police, it was found that Singh made the call to the control room, they said.  A case has been registered under relevant sections of IT Act and IPC 506 and 509.  Police had yesterday said that a "mentally stressed" elderly woman made the call as she was angry over rise in prices of essential goods.

Police had said they traced the caller, who is in her sixties, detained her and let her off after questioning.  An anonymous call was made to the Police Control Room (PCR) by someone whose voice sounded like that of a "middle-aged woman's" on Thursday evening claiming that Dikshit's life was in danger for the next 72 hours.  Following the call, police strengthened the security of the Chief Minister, who has a 'Z+' cover. More personnel were also deployed at her 3 Motilal Nehru Marg residence. PTI
