Hardening his stand on what he calls the “radical Islamic terror,” Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump has proposed a Cold War- era type ideological test for Muslim immigrants and visitors to the United States.

According to a report in The Washington Post, Trump called “extreme vetting” for “any hostile attitude towards US or its principles, or who believed sharia law should supplant American law.

“In the Cold War, we had an ideological screening test. The time is overdue to develop a new screening test for the threats we face today. I call it extreme, extreme vetting,” the report quoted Donald Trump as saying.

Trump also advocated suspension of immigration from the countries exporting terrorism although he avoided mentioning the term ‘Muslim-majority nations’ the way he had done in the past.

Instead, Trump said that he would “temporarily suspend immigration from some of the most dangerous and volatile regions of the world that have a history of exporting terrorism.”

Trump also said that he would establish a commission on radical Islam which will include reformist voices in the Muslim community who will hopefully work with us.

“The commission’s goal will be to identify and explain to the American public the core convictions and beliefs of radical Islam” and develop “new protocols” for law enforcement,” Trump was quoted as saying by The Washington Post.

Donald Trump has also proposed to keep open the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that Obama has unsuccessfully tried to close for more than seven years.

“Drone strikes will remain part of our strategy, but we will also seek to capture high-value targets to gain needed information to dismantle their organizations. Foreign combatants will be tried in military commissions,” Trump added.
