Los Angeles, Dec 14 : California police say one man is under arrest and another is being sought after an alleged drunk driver crashed into two homes, leaving his car suspended five feet  above the ground in San Pedro early on Sunday morning.

The car crashed into two houses at 1:30 am local time. Police at the scene said the alleged drunk driver drove his car over a kerb and it then crashed sideways, ending up wedged between the walls of two houses. One of the houses suffered a severed gas line.

Said Kim Macedo, resident of the house hit by the car:  "I thought it was an earthquake and I kind of was in my bed bracing for an aftershock or something, and then I heard my mom yelling there was someone in the yard, and she told me to call 911. So I did and I went downstairs to see what was going on and I saw that."

Police arrested the driver at the scene for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Said Officer M. Koons, Los Angeles Police Department: "We responded to a call of a car stuck between two houses as we got here we were told that there was a DUI (driving under the influence) in custody by other officers and he is at the station now. We do not know anything further."

A crane was called to the scene to lift the car out of the houses. AP
