New Delhi: Syria is one of the deadliest places in the world for journalists. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, at least 29 journalists were killed in Syria in 2013 and 31 in 2012.

In 2011, when the Syrian civil war began, mainly during Arab Spring, over 110 foreign correspondents, Syrian professional journalists and citizen journalists were killed for reporting.

Since then, reporting from the war zone remains risky for a journalist in Syria.

The Bashar al- Assad's regime has put curbs on freedom of press, and journalists have been the first targets of  his rule.
