Nepal Ex-Crown Prince Paras Arrested In Pokhara

Pokhara: A special team of security personnel detained former Crown Prince Paras Shah from a resort in Pokhara and airlifted him to Chitwan to interrogate him on Tuesday afternoon.

The former royal, who fired a shot to intimidate the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala at Tiger Tops in Chitwan on Saturday following some differences, was taken under control at the Fulbari Resort, where he was staying, amid high security arrangments.

He will be further interrogated in Chitwan where the incident happened.

A huge number of security personnel from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were deployed in the Fulbari Resort, when the former heir of the Nepal's monarchy that was abolished in 2008 was taken under control.

Some vehicles of the Nepal Army were also seen at the Resort premises when the security officials were trying to hand over the arrest warrant to Shah, who has already admitted that he had fired a pistol in the wake of a hot debate.

Shah has been taken to Bharatpur on a Fish Tail chopper.

SSP Keshav Adhikari confirmed that the team led by him took the only son of former King under control.

Earlier, both the local administration and the police had refrained from providing information to the media about the charges against Shah.

At the time, the security personnel were preparing to airlift Shah, scores of pro-monarchy activists have outside the Fulbari Resort.

They chanted slogans against the government, expressing solidarity with the beleagured former royal, who is notorious for his idiosyncratic turbulence and violent attitude.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Bhim Rawal informed the Public Accounts Committee in Kathmandu that Shah has been arrested and he would be ferried to Chitwan for further action.
