New Delhi, Sep 22 : The United Arab Emirates have announced an amnesty scheme which will benefit nearly 30,000 Indians stuck in the Gulf country for violation of various immigration rules and regulations, a move welcomed by India.

"Yesterday UAE announced the scheme which will benefit thousands of Indians living in the country. Now we will be able to bring them back within a period of six months," Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said.

Welcoming the decision of the UAE government, Ravi said it will help people who violated various rules and regulations like overstaying or working there illegally.  He said the scheme will benefit nearly 30,000 Indians.

A senior official of the Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry said the scheme will also help those people slapped with financial penalties and those who faced possible detention for violating immigration rules there. PTI
