Responding to the doubts expressed by the Madras High Court over late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s “mysterious death”, the state government today said that it will file a reply to the court.

During the hearing of a petition filed by AIADMK member Joseph seeking a judicial probe into Jaya’s death, the court said that the government could keep the discharge summary of the late CM in a sealed cover only to be seen by it alone, if the need arises.

While the Apollo Hospital, where Jayalalithaa was hospitalised, said that the discharge summary is ready, the state government sought some time to submit the details. Respecting the right of privacy and confidentiality, the court pushed the case further to February 23.

The bench also questioned the petitioner over his demand to which he replied that as a member of the AIADMK and a citizen of Tamil Nadu, he deserves to know what had happened to the former Chief Minister.

In its December 29 hearing, the High Court observed, “We have personal suspicions about Jayalalithaa’s death.”

On Jayalalithaa’s 75-day hospitalisation, the judge had questioned: “There were reports of her eating, talking, attending meetings and signing documents. Then how did she die all of a sudden. At least now after her death, the truth should be revealed”.

“Even after death, you have not given medical records, why can’t we order exhumation of the body?” the court had asked the Tamil Nadu government.

The bench also issued notices to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, state and central governments.
