The Bharatiya Janata Party and Biju Janata Dal have registered complaints against each other at the State Election Commission (SEC) over violation of model code of conduct ahead of Panchayat polls in Odisha.

A BJD delegation led by former minister and spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda appeared before the state election commission (SEC) for the third time in a week and complained against an advertisement on Atal Jyoti Yojana in almost all leading local dailies with a photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The advertisements related to Atal Jyoti Yojana in Newspaper and TV channels amount to violation of model code of conduct. We appealed to the State Election Commission to take action against it immediately, BJD spokesperson Rabi Narayan Nanda said.

On the other hand, a delegation of the BJP also met State Election Commissioner RN Senapati and requested his intervention to stop violation of model code of conduct by the ruling BJD.

"The SEC had directed the state government to make the voters list available in all blocks, but they are yet to do it," said BJP vice- president Sameer Mohanty.

He said a number of advertisements on state government schemes still have photographs of Naveen Patnaik.

On BJD's allegations, Mohanty said the Centre's advertisements are meant for the entire country.
