Reacting to the resignation offer of Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today said that the BJP was making Anandiben a scapegoat but sacrificing her will not save the party in the state.

Rahul further said that it was 13 years of Narendra Modi rule that actually led to present state of affairs in Gujarat.
“13 years of Modi rule, not 2 years of Anandiben are responsible for Gujarat burning. Sacrificing the scapegoat won't save the BJP,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet today.

On Monday, Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel offered to resign from her post citing the 75-year age bar that the BJP has put for its leaders to hold government positions.

The parliamentary board of the BJP headed by party president Amit Shah is slated to discuss Anandiben’s resignation offer today. According to media reports, the board is likely to accept the resignation of Gujarat CM.

Anandiben Patel became the first Chief Minister in India’s history to offer her resignation on social media.

BJP’s opponents like Congress and AAP have alleged that the actual reason behind Anandiben’s resignation offer is that under her leadership, the party is fast losing ground in Gujarat.

According to them, her handling of issues like ‘Patel agitation’ and recent controversy over ‘flogging of Dalits’ has put the BJP in an embarrassing  position forcing the party to ask for her resignation.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal went to the extent of saying that it was fear of AAP popularity in Gujarat  that forced the BJP to seek the resignation of Anandiben Patel.
