New Delhi: Assault on women by juveniles with the intent to outrage their modesty rose by 132 per cent in 2013 as against the previous year, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi told the House that as per data available with the National Crime Records Bureau, in 2013, there has been 132 per cent increase in the number of crimes committed by juveniles against women with the intent to outrage their modesty compared to the year 2012.

The percentage of crimes committed by children in the age group of 16-18 years has also increased to the total crimes committed by children across all ages. This percentage has increased from 48.7 per cent in 2002 to 66.3 per cent in 2013.

To another question, Gandhi said that her ministry had conceptualised a scheme to establish ‘One Stop Centre' to assist and support women affected by violence at 660 locations covering all the districts in the country in a phased manner.  The centres aims to facilitate medical aid and police assistance, provide legal counselling management, psycho-social counselling and temporary shelter, if required, she added.
