Uncertainty over the BJP-JMM coalition government in Jharkhand still continues with the former waiting for Shibu Soren to resign and allow a BJP chief minister to take over.

The party is, however, not sure on whether the JMM chief will step down himself, as was agreed upon at a meeting between the two party leaders on Saturday, or he will continue to make trouble for BJP.

For BJP, the options are limited — either to have the party's own chief minister in Ranchi or pull out to make way for President's rule in the state.

In case it manages to get chief ministership, the name of deputy chief minister Raghuvar Das is on top of the list at moment though former chief minister Arjun Munda and even senior leader from the state Yashwant Sinha are also being considered.

With BJP first having decided to pull out of the coalition government last week, when Soren voted against the NDA line and in favour of the ruling UPA during the cut motions in Lok Sabha, and then doing a rethink and trying to work out a deal with JMM, matters only got messy.

Now, the longer it takes to take a final call on the situation, the worse it gets for BJP in terms of being seen as party which cannot take decisions that can strengthen the party's credibility.

It is to be seen, therefore, how long Soren keeps the party hanging on allowing its chief minister to take over and whether BJP emerges a gainer out of the situation or it loses the government in Jharkhand as well as its face.
