Patna: Under pressure from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to keep Narendra Modi away from electioneering in Bihar, BJP on Thursday  said it would decide who would campaign during the Assembly polls. "Party executive will decide who will campaign", BJP national spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters.

His comments came after Kumar said in New Delhi earlier today that he left it to the BJP to decide whether the Gujarat Chief Minister will campaign for the party during the elections in October-November. Kumar is, however, in favour of continuation of the "old arrangement" in which Modi was kept away from championing the cause of BJP in the state in the last elections.

To a volley of questions on the issue, Hussain said "I have already clarified the position." "Role of every worker from grassroot to the Centre will be important in the crucial campaign for seeking a second term for NDA in Bihar", Hussain said.

"Top leaders of the party in consultation of the state leaders are involved in the strategy for ensuring the victory of the alliance," he said, adding it was not not a matter that who should or not campaign " but whosoever will be deemed fit and appropriate for the purpose their services will be roped in." He said state election body of BJP would be meeting day after tomorrow for chalking out the election-related strategy. PTI
