BJP Top Brass To Attend Basu's Funeral
BJP Parliamentary Party Chairman L K Advani, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and party president Nitin Gadkari will attend the funeral of CPI(M) patriarch Jyoti Basu in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Advani, who was in Mumbai at the time of Basu's death, had announced that he will attend the last rites of the veteran Marxist leader.
Gadkari had planned to visit Kolkata on Monday to pay respect to the departed leader but changed his plans and will now accompany Advani to the funeral.
Swaraj, who described Basu as a tall and experienced leader whom the BJP respected despite ideological differences, has also decided to attend his last rites.
Basu's mortal remains will not be cremated as per his wish. His mortal remains will be taken to SSKM hospital in Kolkata, as he has donated his body for medical research purposes. Basu has already donated his eyes. His eyes have been taken out for Sushrut Eye Centre.
