West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Wednesday in Kolkata accused Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee of treating her Railway portfolio lightly and said bringing her party to power in the state would be disastrous.

Referring to the stampede at the New Delhi railway station, Bhattacharjee said "What is happening with the Railways is tamasha. What happened in New Delhi station last week? See what happens if something is done mindlessly. People died while returning home, but what was her reaction?"

On repeated outbursts against his government by Banerjee in the run-up to the May 30 civic polls, he told a Bengali news channel "it is easy to shout in the fields, but not easy to run a government. If they are given power, it will be disastrous."

Stating that elections to the Lok Sabha, state assemblies and the civic bodies were fought on different issues, he admitted that about 15 lakh voters had drifted away from the CPI(M) in the last Lok Sabha polls.

'But we did not sit idle. We tried to analyse the reasons. Should we have been more careful in land acquisition? If there are mistakes, those must be rectified. People have seen what we could or could not achieve. They have also seen what the image of the opposition is. Those who have left us are now thinking who the alternative is," he said. PTI
