Congress on Monday asked the Opposition to "look within" before levelling allegation against the government on 2G spectrum allocation controversy.

"It is ironical. Those who are holding Parliament to ransom (on 2G spectrum issue) are precisely those who in 1999, allowed the telecom operators to migrate from licence fee to revenue sharing arrangement," party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters.

He said that in 1999, "Telecom portfolio was taken away from Jagmohan, it was taken over by then Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, and the recommendation of then Attorney General allowed this migration to take place which directly caused a revenue loss of 60,000 crore to exchequer. So therefore, before they start levelling allegations against the UPA, they should look within."

The Congress spokesman said, "NDA never even had the temerity to inquire. While in this particular instance, there are two parallel proceedings going on. CBI is investigating and the matter is also in the Supreme Court so it is sub-judice."

Telecom Minister A Raja was in the eye of a fresh storm in Parliament today with Opposition demanding his removal over his alleged involvement in the reported scam in allocation of 2G spectrum, forcing two adjournments of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. PTI
