Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, who was recently critical of Home Minister P Chidambaram's approach in tackling the Maoists menace, today met him and is understood to have cleared his stand on the issue.

Both the leaders were closeted for 20 minutes in the North Block office of the Home Minister during the one-on-one meeting.

This was the first meeting between the two after Singh's criticism of Chidambaram in a newspaper article he had written on April 14.

Singh, who last week had regretted his remarks, had suggested in the article that Chidambaram was treating the Naxalite issue as a law and order problem which was wrong and called for a rethink of counter-Maoist strategy.

When Singh's comments triggered a controversy in the wake of April 6 Dantewada massacre, the Congress distanced itself from it and said such views should be expressed in party fora only.

The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister had also met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son and party general secretary Rahul and was believed to have clarified his position on the issue. PTI
