Jaitley Says, Saghir Ahmed Had No Power To Recommend Autonomy
BJP leader Arun Jaitley, part of the Prime Minister's Working Group which favoured autonomy for Jammu and Kashmir, has said the report was a "conspiracy" against national interest.
He said the Group's head Justice (rtd) Saghir Ahmad had "no right to make recommendations. He has brought a bad name to the Indian judiciary."
"The BJP views Working Group's report on Centre-state relations as a 'conspiracy against national interests' and it will not allow the recommendations to be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir," party general secretary and leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha told a public gathering in Jammu on Sunday.
Jaitley, a member of the fifth working group, said the report seeks to "dilute the Centre's control over Kashmir" and this was "unacceptable".
"We were told to attend another meeting of the Group. But some time after this, one fine morning I saw the report's recommendations in the newspapers. I was shocked."
The report submitted to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on December 23 favours restoration of autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir. On self-rule and autonomy solutions of NC and PDP he said, "it is a conspiracy to disintegrate it from Indian Union. They are making path to independence of the state indirectly." PTI
